The temperature had been around -42℉ for most of the day, then Lynn tried to use the stove and it wouldn’t light. I checked the weather and found that we had finally got down below -44℉. The boiling point of propane is -44.1℉ so propane appliances don’t work below this temp. It should get a… Continue reading Too cold for propane

Finally Back in Galena
Well, we are finally back in Galena after spending a couple of days in Fairbanks shopping. Snowball was happy to see Victoria and we are glad to have a weekend to unwind and get ready for work next week. I have posted a few pictures of Victoria’s graduation. It snowed about 14 inches in the… Continue reading Finally Back in Galena
Waiting for our flight in Cincinnati
Well, we made it back to Cincinnati and we are now sitting in the airport waiting for our first flight. We should arrive in Fairbanks at about 2:00 am Alaska time.
In Erie for graduation
We got into Erie for graduation last night. After breakfast Victoria gave us a campus tour and now we are back at the hotel. I am taking plenty of pictures and will upload them on my return to Galena. The drive up from Cincinnati wasn’t too bad and we were able to stop in Columbus… Continue reading In Erie for graduation
Taking a break in Minneapolis
Finally getting a meal in Minneapolis while we wait on our flight to Cincinnati.
On our way to Erie
Well we finally made it to Fairbanks. We catch the early flight to Seattle at about1:00 am on our way to attend Victoria’s graduation. We weren’t sure we were going to get to fly out due to high winds but we made it. Our bags had to go on the mail plane due to weight… Continue reading On our way to Erie
Update from Galena
The weather here has been interesting the last couple of weeks. It would warm up to unseasonably high temperatures, (30 to 40F) rain and then cool off and freeze up. This was coupled with extremely high winds for this part of the state. We had gusts of over 54 mph reported at the airport and… Continue reading Update from Galena
Finally getting a little cold weather
Fall seems to be over finally. The ice started running a little bit on Thursday when Lynn and I were flying into town. We still don’t have enough snow on the ground to run our snow machine and it is just barely below freezing. I have enclosed a short video of the ice running on… Continue reading Finally getting a little cold weather
New Snow Machine
Here is my new 600 four stroke superwide track that is replacing the machine that was destroyed in the flood. This machine is considerably larger than my old one. It has a 24 inch wide track instead of the 16 inch track on the previous machine and it is powered by a 600cc four stroke… Continue reading New Snow Machine
First snow of this winter season
Today we had our first snowfall of this winter season. No real accumulation but it serves as a reminder that winter is just around the corner. We will likely have only one or two more barges before the river starts freezing. The temperature has been below freezing at night but has been getting up to… Continue reading First snow of this winter season
