Friday morning Jacob and I with his dog Beauregard left Arkansas headed to Portland, Oregon. Jacob has a new job there as an economics professor at Portland State University. The first day we drove from Fort Smith, Arkansas to Laramie, Wyoming. This morning we got up, had breakfast and headed out. We finished our… Continue reading Arkansas to Oregon

Headed down to Arkansas
I flew into Fairbanks after work today on a Ravn Cessna 208 and now I’m sitting in the Fairbanks airport waiting on my flight. I should be in Arkansas before noon tomorrow.
New job!
Last Thursday was my last day with maintenance department. I started with the IT department on Friday as a Computer Technician. We have had a little break in the rain but I haven’t been back out on the river as I have been helping a friend wire his new house. He helped me out a… Continue reading New job!
Lots of rain
I haven’t posted anything in a while because nearly constant rain has kept us indoors after work. Last Saturday the weather was clear so I decided to do a little yard cleanup and took a couple of loads to the dump in the pickup. It started raining on Sunday and hasn’t really stopped since. I… Continue reading Lots of rain
Yuki River
I took advantage of the weather and went up to the Yuki River to look around a bit today. It is about an hour and a half boat ride from Galena in my boat to get to the mouth of the river. The water was high so I was able to go quite a fair… Continue reading Yuki River
Our truck has arrived!
The barge arrived early this afternoon and we now have our truck at home. I had planned to take the boat out this morning but decided to wait since the barge would have the landing blocked until late in the evening. This is a fairly typical load for this particular company. About a quarter of… Continue reading Our truck has arrived!
Yukon 800 boat race
Today was the start of the annual Yukon 800 boat race. The race starts in Fairbanks and the racers go to Galena and return the next day. The start was around 11:00 AM today and the first boat got into Galena around 7:00 PM. They have to navigate three different rivers on the course. The… Continue reading Yukon 800 boat race
Back to work
I got back to Galena last Sunday and Lynn got back yesterday. Snowball seemed happy that we came home. It has been raining on and off since I got back but that’s normal for this time of year. The barge came in yesterday, I didn’t have my truck to the barge landing in time for… Continue reading Back to work
Anchorage to Fairbanks
We drove from Anchorage to Fairbanks today. Still couldn’t see Denali on the way up as it was cloudy and raining most of the way. There was quite a bit of road construction from Cantwell to Nenana so that part of the trip was pretty slow. We have a few things to do tomorrow morning… Continue reading Anchorage to Fairbanks
Matanuska Glacier
This morning we drove up to the Matanuska Glacier on the Glenn Highway. It was a very nice drive with almost no traffic. Tomorrow morning we head back up to Fairbanks and Friday I will drop the truck off at the barge landing.
