I changed my oil, serviced the lower unit and put fresh gas in the tank the other day. The wind was kind of strong last couple of days but the weather improved a little today so I decided to go out and see how the boat runs. I ran upriver quite a little ways and everything seems to be running fine. As you can see from my depth-finder the water here is very cold even in the spring and summer. At the warmest part of the summer it will get up to around 60F. Lifejackets are essential when boating on rivers and streams in Alaska. No matter how good a swimmer you are, you won’t be able to go very far in 48 degree water. I have also included some shots of the bank erosion on the north bank. This is an ongoing process the entire length of the Yukon. The existing road to our dump is right along the river and a fair sized section of this road caves in nearly every year. A new road that is placed further away from the river has been under construction since last winter. Hopefully it will be completed this summer. Lynn and I will be leaving town on a short vacation later this week so I should be able to post some good pictures while we are in town.
