The ice stopped running yesterday evening and the water rapidly backed up into the lakes and creeks around town. Water level has been pretty stable all night. The elder center had to be evacuated yesterday when water started coming over the road but since then the water level has receded somewhat. The ice is jammed at Bishop Rock downstream by a two mile long ice sheet and the river ice is backed up about 70 miles upriver from Galena. Things are currently stable here but when the ice jam lets go Koyukuk and Nulato could experience some flooding. No pictures this time as nothing has really changed. I’ll get out and take some more later.
