First Barge of 2021

Barge in Galena
First barge of 2021 in Galena

I saw the first barge of the year as I was running home from work and had to stop and take a picture. Yesterday there was a significant amount of driftwood in the river and a fair amount of ice mixed in. The river seemed to be mostly clear of drift today but that normally changes day to day this time of year.

The weather has really warmed up, it was in the low 60’s this afternoon and it has been staying above freezing at night. We did actually get a dusting of snow two nights ago but it didn’t last long of course. The warmer weather and no snow has really made the roads dusty. I try to run on the trails when I can instead of the road.

This little moose calf was standing right next to the trail I was running on. My main concern when I see things like this is to keep an eye out for the cow. This particular stretch of trail normally has one or two moose on it in the mornings and evenings.

Not much else going on right now. I’ll post again later.
