Deep Cold

24 January

When you live up here they have some interesting weather terms.  “Deep Cold” is pretty descriptive.  We have had several days of sub -30F temperatures and it is still dropping.  This is more typical of late December but still common in January. You really can’t do much outside at this temperature.  It’s pretty hard on any type of machinery and unless you have a real need to go out you don’t.  I have a good bit of firewood split and another couple of cords that are cut so we will stay warm.

Lynn is supposed to go into town today but might not be able to go because the airport is socked in with freezing fog.  The open hole outside old town stubbornly refuses to freeze over and is creating a dense fog cloud that drifts over the runway. The reason that it gets so cold is the clear sky allowing all the heat to escape. Except right over the runway.  Last I checked they had a 100 foot ceiling and 1 mile visibility.  This could change as the sun comes up so we will call the airport to check before I take her out there.

Not much else to post. Hopefully it will warm up next week and give us some more snowfall.
